Dual Purpose Riding the Lost Coast

The Lost Coast

The day had finally arrived to ride the Lost Coast. Immediately upon being stationed back in Northern California I traded in my BMW RT 1100 for a 2008 KLR 650. What better route for an inaugural ride? After many years of “hotel” touring I was transitioning back to my “pack it light, freeze at night” mode of travel. The Usal Road and Lost Coast road conditions were an unknown. The winter months of 2008 had seen a lot of rain on the North Coast near Eureka California and my research indicated that the roads could be impassable if wet.  Would the KLR be able to conquer what the King’s Range and Sinkyone Wilderness threw our way in late March? To hedge my bets I packed two motorcycle tie down straps that could possible double as tow straps. My riding partner for this trip would be a college roommate from 19 years ago. Glenn had called the day prior with a cryptic, “I’ve bought something that will handle

Allen Iverson calmly sank two free throws, and the magic number flashed on the scoreboard: 50 points. The last time he did it, people had a problem with it. This time, it was a milestone that showed how much things have changed. Iverson tied his career high and made a mockery of his showdown with Sacramento’s Jason Williams as the 76ers beat the Kings 119-108. Iverson’s performance was reminiscent of the one in Cleveland three years ago when he put up 50 in the city where he was booed during the rookie game at All-Star weekend. Now, his team is in position to make the playoffs for the second straight season after an eight-year drought, and Iverson is finally shedding his reputation as a selfish showman who cares only about stats. He was roundly criticized for his string of 40-point games as a rookie, accused of padding his stats in a push for the Rookie of the Year award–which he won. Iverson’s response this time: “I don’t mind taking 40 shots. That’s what I do.” “I played that game like it was my last when I was a rookie and scored 50,” said Iverson, who equaled the most points scored in the NBA this season. “I did the same thing tonight, just like I do every night. And we won.” Iverson, approaching his first All-Star game, had a slew of incredible numbers: A career-high 20 field goals and 40 attempts, nine rebounds and six assists. He favorite stat was the one that goes in the standings. Unlike his other 50-point game, the Sixers won. “Regardless of whether I score 50

Bay Area Rapid Transit

History

Development and origins

Main article: History of the Bay Area Rapid Transit

Some of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System’s current coverage area was once served by the electrified streetcar and suburban train system called the Key System. This early twentieth century system once had regular trans-bay traffic across the lower deck of the Bay Bridge. By the mid-1950s that entire system had been dismantled in favor of highway travel using automobiles and buses – given the explosive growth of expressway construction. A new rapid-transit system was proposed to take the place of the Key System during the late 1940s, and formal planning for it began in the 1950s. Some funding was secured for the BART system in 1959, and construction began a few years later. The first passenger rail service commenced on a few stretches of track in September 1972. The new BART system was hailed by some authorities as a major step forwards in subway technology.

Lake Tahoe

Geography

Rocky terrain is highlighted by a recent snow on US Highway 50 southwest of South Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the U.S., with a maximum depth of 1,645 feet (501 m), trailing only Oregon’s Crater Lake at 1,949 ft (594 m). Tahoe is also the 16th deepest lake in the world, and the fifth deepest in average depth. It is about 22 mi (35 km) long and 12 mi (19 km) wide and has 72 mi (116 km) of shoreline and a surface area of 191 square miles (490 km2). Washoe Indians used the lake. Approximately 2/3 of the shoreline is in California. The south shore is dominated by the lake’s largest city, South Lake Tahoe, California, which adjoins the town of Stateline, Nevada, while Tahoe City, California is located on the lake’s northwest shore. Although highways run within sight of the lake shore for much of Tahoe’s perimeter, many important parts of the shoreline now lie within state parks or are protected by the United States

Museums are Highlight of Visit to California Capital

Sacramento is not just any old state capital — it’s also a virtual theme park for historians, art lovers and just about anyone else who wants to learn more about the state of California.

It’s tempting to say it’s a theme park for adults – but it’s really not just for adults. In fact, a visit to Sacramento probably will be one of the most beneficial field trips your youngsters will ever take. They’ll learn about government, the Old West, railroads, Native Americans, the Gold Rush and several other subjects featured in dozens of Sacramento exhibits and museums.

We stopped by the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, where we obtained maps and a long list of attractions in the city. The CVB is just around the corner from highlights like the Governor’s Mansion and the many beautifully maintained Victorian homes and architecture found throughout the downtown area.

We then drove over to take the obligatory pictures of the State

Great NBA Basketball Dunks

It’s the play that makes crowds jump to their feet, players jump from their benches and people who are watching at home jump off the couch and yell, “Holy crap, did you see that?” It’s the slam-dunk – the most electrifying and exciting play in basketball. Whether it’s a power dunk that nearly breaks the backboard or an acrobatic aerial maneuver where the player twists and turns in the air, a slam dunk gets players and fans fired up and can change the momentum of the game.

The high point of a basketball match is a slam-dunk and the NBA basketball dunks are by far the most exciting shots hit on any basketball courts. These dunks, executed by NBA stars, bring out the best from the crowds. They roar, they cheer, and they applaud every basketball dunk. The players too love the dunks, and have come up with different dunking styles.

On of the most popular NBA dunks are skywalking. These NBA stars, also known as skywalkers or aerial artists, literally hang in the

Basketball – Bundesliga – 43rd German?s Basketball Season Begins

The 43rd season of the German Basketball-Bundesliga (BBL) begins next Saturday, September 20th. The BBL was founded in 1966 and was divided in two groups: the north and south, only nine years later the two groups were united. The 1st League in Germany is organized by the 1994 founded Veltins Basketball Bundesliga GMBH and contains 18 teams since 2006.

In the past years, the German Basketball League gained more and more credence and appreciation. Due to the active exchange of players with the US-American National Basketball Association (NBA), the BBL is now known all over the world. In this coming up season, we will see at least four foreign professional players. The 27-year-old Casey Gardner Jacobsen will start playing at the reigning German Champion ALBA Berlin. The Shooting Guard and small forward passed last year’s season with the Memphis Grizzlies. Jacobsen started his professional career in 2002 and played one season in Germany with the Brose

The Minnesota Timberwolves Continue Their Hunt For an NBA Championship

Do some sports teams’ names stump you? Oftentimes, we hear a team’s name over and over again, without knowing for certain, what it is. For instance, there is the Minnesota Timberwolves. We know that timber includes trees that produce wood for building houses and furniture. We know that wolves are wild mammals. Are Timberwolves wolves that live in forests?

Actually, a timberwolf is another name for the grey wolf. A distant relative of the domestic dog, timberwolves indeed live in forests. However, they also reside in other areas such as mountains, grasslands, and even urban regions. A “name the team” contest named the Minnesota Timberwolves as such, as the name defeated the other finalist, “Polars.” “Timberwolves” is quite appropriate, considering that more timberwolves live in Minnesota than in any of the other continental U.S. states. Here are some interesting wolf facts:

• Wolves are the biggest wild canine
• Wolves have

The Seattle Supersonics Zip Towards a Second NBA Championship

We live in a super world. There is the super-size meal, the Super Duper Looper roller coaster, Superman, Superwoman, and even Superdog. Meanwhile, the NBA has the Seattle Supersonics. For over three decades, the Supersonics has represented Seattle. While the team’s most super season was 1978-1979, the Supersonics are always striving to win yet another NBA Finals.

The 1967-1968 season was the Seattle Supersonics’ first campaign in the NBA. They would be one of the NBA’s pair of new expansion teams. The name “Supersonics” referred to Seattle’s aerospace industry, and particularly to the Supersonic Transport (SST). A supersonic aircraft can travel quicker than the speed of sound. The first season of the Sonics was rough, as they finished with a 23-59 record.

A decade after entering the NBA, the Sonics had a new head coach (Bob Hopkins) and several new players for the 1977-1978 season. They finished the regular season with an admirable
